We are excited to announce the addition of tremendous functionality to our line of STATISTICA software in 1999, specifically in the realm of enterprise and SPC systems. We have also made continual advancements in the area of innovative statistical methods of analysis. Due to these many advancements, we have made several changes and additions to the STATISTICA product line. You may have already seen our ads highlighting these changes in the December 1998 issues of Quality Progress and Nature magazines and the January 19 issue of PC magazine. Overall, we think you will be pleased with all of our new offerings. Please feel free to send any comments, suggestions or questions to info@statsoft.com.au.
In 1999, we will be adding the following modules to STATISTICA for Windows: Visual General Linear Models, Visual Generalized Linear Models, Visual General Stepwise Regression, and Visual Partial Least Squares. Each new module features an easy-to-use interface and the most comprehensive and powerful implementation of the respective class of techniques currently available in the market:
Visual General Linear Models (VGLM) - an implementation of the General Linear Model for analyzing responses on one or more continuous dependent variables as a function of one or more categorical or continuous independent variables.
Visual Generalized Linear Models (VGLZ) - allows the user to search for linear and nonlinear relationships between a response variable and categorical or continuous predictor variables.
Visual General Stepwise Regression (VGSR) - incorporates a comprehensive set of stepwise regression and best-subset model building techniques supporting both continuous and categorical variables.
Visual Partial Least Squares (VPLS) - offers a similar selection of flexible user interfaces to that of VGLM, VGSR, and VGLZ, and includes a comprehensive selection of algorithms for analyzing univariate and multivariate partial least squares problems.
Even with the addition of all this extensive functionality, the retail price of STATISTICA '99 will increase only slightly - the price still much lower in comparison to other comparable programs on the market.
In February 1999, we are scheduled to release a specialized statistical tool called STATISTICA Power Analysis, an intensive research tool for analyzing power and sample size. In addition to a friendly user interface, STATISTICA Power Analysis offers unique quantitative features that set it apart from the competition. These features include the number of statistical procedures supported by the program, the speed of calculations, the numerical precision of calculations (as measured by the number of significant digits produced by the program and its ability to correctly handle "extreme" numerical conclusions), and much more.

With the release of the '99 edition of STATISTICA, in response to user request, we will split the STATISTICA Industrial System into three separate products: STATISTICA Quality Control Charts, STATISTICA Process Analysis, and STATISTICA Design of Experiments. By offering these products individually, we meet the needs of both users with basic needs and those users with more advanced needs.
STATISTICA Quality Control Charts - a stand-alone product that does not require STATISTICA or Quick STATISTICA, fully customizable quality control charting applications, which offer a complete set of QC tools, including prompts for causes/actions, alarm notification, analytic brushing, and various advanced analysis methods.
STATISTICA Process Analysis* - includes extensive implementations of process capability analysis techniques, gage R&R, Weibull analysis, and much more.
STATISTICA Design of Experiments* - a highly interactive and easy-to use program that offers a comprehensive selection of DOE procedures, including desirability profilers for optimization of single or multiple variables and other advanced visualization methods.
*STATISTICA Process Analysis and STATISTICA Design of Experiments are add-on products and require at least either STATISTICA, Quick STATISTICA or STATISTICA Quality Control Charts.
Effectively, by offering these products separately, the price for the product formerly called STATISTICA Industrial System will increase for those users who need the total functionality of all three products, but lowers the price for those who need only some of the functionality.

STATISTICA '99 Enterprise Solutions may be the most innovative and groundbreaking products of the new year. Created using advanced STATISTICA technology, STATISTICA '99 Enterprise Solutions are reliable, high performance, and customizable off-the-shelf software products designed for efficient collaborative work and management of large amounts of data. STATISTICA Enterprise products are highly customizable and can be easily tailored to meet a variety of special needs. For companies with more complex needs, StatSoft can provide consultants for customized implementation, training, and services.
The STATISTICA Enterprise System (SENS) is a multi-user version of STATISTICA fully integrated with a powerful central data warehouse that provides an efficient general interface to enterprise-wide repositories of data, a means for collaborative work (extensive groupware functionality), and advanced, intelligent enterprise data broadcasting and proactive/automatic enterprise data analysis facilities.
The STATISTICA Enterprise-wide SPC System (SEWSS) is an integrated multi-user software package that provides complete SPC functionality and all tools necessary to coordinate the work of multiple operators, QC engineers and managers.
Finally, also in early 1999, we are releasing version 2 of STATISTICA Connectivity Kit (SCK). SCK now features a shell of STATISTICA Enterprise-Wide SPC System (SEWSS), but without the groupware functionality. This feature shields any shop floor operator from anything requiring technical knowledge of computers, making it even easier to use. Network versions of SCK are not available.

*Implementation Services*
The technology offered in STATISTICA Enterprise-Wide SPC System (SEWSS) and STATISTICA Enterprise System (SENS) allows companies to fully integrate our software with their existing computing environments - practically regardless of their size or complexity. However, advanced expertise may be necessary to implement such integration when (a) the existing enterprise systems use very complex and proprietary or specialized data formats (or schemas of databases) or (b) the resulting integrated systems are expected to perform highly specialized, automated information delivery, monitoring, processing, and/or auto-response functions.
StatSoft Technical Services and R&D Departments offer a wide variety of custom development, implementation and system integration services that can range from small-scale, single-device data monitoring and analysis systems or setting up your STATISTICA software to work with your current corporate database to developing and implementing a large-scale integrated, enterprise-wide quality control data collection, warehousing, and analysis system.
For example if your company requires a highly specialized, custom data monitoring and auto-response solution (e.g., you need an application that will monitor tens of thousands of characteristics simultaneously, process the respective data in the background, and notify the operator workstations only if some pre-defined set of conditions are not met), we can set up a custom "headless server" or "black box" extension of the STATISTICA Enterprise-Wide System (SEWSS) and implement it at your site.

This month's helpful tips:
Question: When making a line plot of a variable, I want to label the x-axis with the date values contained in another variable. How do I achieve this?
Answer: Before making the graph, click on the Options button in the 2D Line Plots dialog. In the Stats Graphs: Options dialog, look under Display...Case Labels and click on the Var option. Then in the edit field, select the variable with the date labels.
Question: How do I change the default size for a newly created graph to be in page/printer proportion (fill the entire page)?
Answer: With a graph open, choose the View drop down menu and select Graph Mapping Options. At the bottom of the screen in the middle is a radio button Custom with a number after it - write down this number and close the dialog box. Go to the Options drop down menu and select Global Defaults. Click the Mapping Options button. At the bottom of the screen is a Screen Proportion and Printer Proportion box. Set both to custom and type in the number you wrote down earlier. Click OK on both screens then go ahead and make your graphs - they should all be in page/printer proportion.
