I. STATISTICA Enterprise-wide SPC System Now More Web Enabled with WebSEWSS StatSoft recently announced that its enterprise-wide Statistical Process Control (SPC) software, SEWSS, now provides thin-client access to reports, charts, and graphs via the Web. Now more completely web-enabled with WebSEWSS, SEWSS offers companies more efficient knowledge-sharing and decision-support tools than ever before.
With SEWSS, users can already automatically post customizable company charts and reports on the Web with the click of the mouse, without knowledge of programming languages like HTML or Java. Report templates in WebSEWSS make it simple to customize the layout, formatting and information included in reports posted. All data can be posted and updated at specified intervals - so users always have access to the latest and most accurate data. With the addition of WebSEWSS, SEWSS now allows colleagues and customers at remote sites, even those without SEWSS, to access SPC data via the Web.
WebSEWSS users simply log on to a specified Internet site, submit their user name and password, and select information they need from a Windows-like user-interface, in near real-time. Any computer that can run a Web browser (a Macintosh, a SUN workstation) can take full advantage of the professional-looking reports, graphs, and charts made available by WebSEWSS. A convenient and easy-to-use knowledge-sharing tool, WebSEWSS also offers security: Users must login through their browser, and who they are determines what they can see and do at the site. II. C Code Generator Add-on for STATISTICA Neural Networks
The popularity of neural networks methodology is rapidly growing in a wide variety of areas from basic research, to data mining applications, business forecasting and risk management, engineering, and others. III. STATISTICA Garners Highest Point Total vs. SPSS and S-Plus in Futures Magazine Review  In the March issue of Futures, a popular magazine among stock traders and analysts, STATISTICA garnered the highest point total when pitted against two other popular statistical packages. STATISTICA (version 5.5) was awarded the highest overall rating (a total of 145 points), while packages by SPSS (version 10) and S-Plus (2000) received 139 and 103 points, respectively. STATISTICA achieved the highest marks in 10 out of 17 categories, including User Interface, Basic Statistics, Graphing and more. The reviewer also praised STATISTICA's powerful but easy to use programming language and the sophistication of STATISTICA's unique general linear and nonlinear modeling procedures. He notes "STATISTICA graphics are of exceptional quality and the easiest to edit." This review marks the seventh consecutive year since 1993 in which STATISTICA has received the highest rating in EVERY comparative review of statistics software in which it has been featured.

IV. StatSoft Web Site Praised
*Britannica*
Britannica, the makers of the oldest and largest general reference in the English language, recently placed the StatSoft web site in the company of an elite group and awarded StatSoft with the Britannica Internet Guide Award. Britannica editors praised the StatSoft web site as one of the best on the Internet when reviewed for quality, accuracy of content, presentation and usability.

StatSoft's Electronic Statistics Textbook was recently chosen as HMS Beagle's "Web Pick of the Day." HMS Beagle, one of Yahoo's top 32 "incredibly useful" Web sites, is a biweekly webzine for biological and medical researchers around the world, with a daily digest of Web resources and published material.

V. STATISTICA Helps Cherry Automotive Get Quick, Meaningful Results from Data
In response to the Winter 2000 issue of StatSoft News, Chris Armetta, Quality Engineer contributed his story on how he uses STATISTICA at Cherry Automotive. Thank you for your feedback, Chris!  "Recently, we had a problem with capability studies in that with a multicavity mold, we are an injection molding facility for plastics, the standard reports were inches thick. Our design teams would have to wade through this mountain of paper to see if the mold was capable and could not easily interpret the data on the cavities interrelated.
With STATISTICA's powerful graphics engine I was able to get a box and whisker plot of the cavities together in relation to the tolerances. This technique has proven so successful that Design has used it as a standard in their mold analysis. The mountain of paper was replaced by a few sheets that yields a quick but more meaningful interpretation of the data. I frequently get calls from other departments to analyze their data based solely on the power of STATISTICA. Our DOE analysis is no longer a chore but now a tool that is used as the needs demand. Thanks for all the effort and insight you have put into your software. Keep up the good work!"

STATISTICA Development Environment
We have received questions recently about how programmers can access STATISTICA data files. As many of you are aware, the STATISTICA Development Environment was developed just for this need. This is a "programmer friendly" tool that offers support for all major programming languages to read and write STATISTICA data files. Below is information from the StatSoft web site regarding the STATISTICA Development Environment.
Introductory Overview of STADEV
STADEV (STATISTICA Development Environment) is a general purpose library of STATISTICA input/output procedures (DLLs) for application developers.
STADEV has been released in response to a growing demand from developers who create custom applications that interface with STATISTICA or integrate STATISTICA into larger (e.g., enterprise-wide) computing environments. STADEV is a very powerful tool that allows the users to manipulate virtually all components of STATISTICA files including file headers, variable specifications, case names, value labels and data. It can be used in a variety of programming environments including Visual C++, Visual BASIC, Delphi, STATISTICA BASIC, and FORTRAN. STADEV DLLs are offered in two versions: 16 and 32 bit.
Sample applications include:
1. third party, general-purpose programs for importing/exporting data;
2. companion input/output procedures accessible from popular applications (e.g., STADEV can easily be called from Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, Power Builder, Oracle, etc.);
3. front-ends for custom data mining applications;
4. various applications that interface STATISTICA with other components of enterprise-wide computing environments (e.g., one can add a front-end to a database that transfers data to STATISTICA files or use STATISTICA data files to communicate selected data to a corporate data base (e.g., written in VB or C/C++));
5. STATISTICA BASIC programs that access data files that are currently 'not loaded' into STATISTICA (data array), such as custom applications that merge data from multiple simultaneously open) STATISTICA data files. STADEV includes a detailed documentation, header files, and examples written in popular programming languages (Visual Basic, Visual C++), and source code of a large selection of sample applications. STADEV is included on the STATISTICA CD ROM and it is now available at no charge from our web site http://www.statsoft.com.au/download.html#stadev.
